Has anyone given any thought to the strange names people are giving their children these days?
The top girls names are still Jessica, Emily, Chloe and Lucy, whilst for boys it's Jack, Joshua, Harry and Thomas. But there is a growing trend towards the unusual.
In the past year, five boys were christened Blade, ninety-four were christened Mylo, while twenty-two were named Spike - presumably after the My Little Pony dragon?
Unusual girls names have included Cadence, Luna and - of all things - Fds. Apparantly over a hundred girls have been christened 'Posey'.
What is the most unusual name you've ever heard?

Maybe I shouldn't mention the names I'm considering for my future children!
But seriously, I have a friend called Luke Sky Walker...

Crystal is a pretty name, not a strange name at all. I like unusual names ! And the best thing about your name is that you kind of share it with a pony (Princess Crystal) even if she is only one of those skinny little G2s.

Unusual names are nice (well, usually... X 0-) Maybe not, say, Mortimer). It was always a little annoying to have to tack on initials to the two or three "Samanthas" in every new classroom I was in, and I don't know how many Jessicas and Michelles there were... It wasn't that I didn't like my name, but I did wish I could have been something more like--Anastasia, or somesuch X 0-)
My kid's'll undoubtedly have names at least a little out of the ordinary... except perhaps for "Cory," which is a name I've always loved despite its popularity ; 0-P I thought Spike was an older name than the MLP dragon, though, lol. And Mylo is unusual? o.o;; The spelling, maybe ("Milo" is more common), but I didn't think it was such a strange name otherwise. Or maybe I just spend too much time around animal names, lol *eyes "The Adventures of Milo and Otis"*

I think names tend to be more common/less common in different countries. Mylo/Milo is quite unusual over here in the UK, but maybe not so much in America.
Desiree is rarer over here too. There are quite a lot of French girls who pronounce their names Desss-ear-air living over here, but very few who pronounce their name as mine is pronounced (Dez-er-ay). I think my pronunctiation is more the American way than the European way?
