So, with the release of retro Rainbow Ponies, who was your favourite of the originals? Any childhood memories to share, or interesting stories behind Rainbow Ponies in your collection? Does anyone actually own a Starshine with no pony cancer, and what are your opinions on White Windy? Yes, you've guessed it! This is the official Year 2 Rainbow Pony discussion thread!!!
Not a very good picture, but those are my Rainbow girls. I've been fortunate enough to get pretty minty examples of all of them apart from Windy (very faded) and Starshine (Haircut).
Back in the days before I knew the names of any ponies not featured in the cartoons or books, my mum and I used to play guessing games about what ponies I'd find at the next toy fair. (There was a dealer who always sold ponies to me, so we were pretty sure I'd find some!) One day, mum guessed, "A pink pony with multi-coloured hair and pink and blue umbrellas on her bottom"! Lo and behold, that weekend we went to the toy fair, and found...PARASOL!
I had never seen this pony before, so Mum couldn't have seen her in the "modern day" (1999-ish). She must have actually remembered Parasol in toy shops in the '80s. What an amazing memory!
My older sister had two of the Rainbow Ponies in her original collection - Sunlight and Windy. So I know they were around when my sister was dragging Mum around toy shops! It's because of my sister's Windy that I do believe White Windy's exist. Her ponies were never kept in bright sunlight, and once I got them they were kept packed away in a box unless I was playing with them (Inside the house, so no exposure to Sunlight there). She is almost pure white - slightly yellowed - and her symbols are BLUE. Of course, it could just be discolouration, but I don't think so...
As for my favourite? Sunlight. I have so many childhood memories of her, and just love her body colour.
