Hello there!
My name is Desiree (although most of you will know me better as Lancer), and I run a My Little Pony Rescue Home for those unfortunate ponies determined as "simple custom bait" to any sane person!
My older sister, Emma, bought me my first pony - Little Rattles - in a toy shop sale back in August 1993. We went back to the same shop every weekend, and my sister or parents would always buy me a pony of my choice. I got Little Lullabye, Little Giggles, Baby Katie, Baby Moon Dream and Baby Splash this way. But then the ponies disappeared from the shop, and I didn't know how to get any more.
My sister gave me her old ponies soon afterwards (Blossom, white Windy, Peachy and Grooming Parlour with most accessories, Sunlight, and three Pony outfits) and these became some of my favourites, even though, of course, I didn't know their names at the time. I also had a Butterscotch, but I'm not sure where she came from, who my Mum nicknamed "Mothball"!
At Christmas 1996, my parents and grandparents managed to find me the Kitchen playset, the Bed and Crib Set, Bridal Beauty, Sweet Delight (always known as Fancy Cakes to me!), Nice 'n' Spicy (Blueberry Pie to me!), Bangles (Oranges and Lemons) and Beautiful Bows (Ribbons and Bows).
My Mum's friend also managed to find me a cassette tape of pony stories and four little Baby Ponies (Unfortunately, I can't remember who) at a car boot sale, and also saved three plushie ponies (Blossom, Cotton Candy and a handmade Butterick Pattern Blossom) from her sister's rubbish bin after a spot of spring cleaning!
I loved the TV shows, and used to record them on video when they were on television, but, of course, I never had any of the characters, so Plushie Cotton Candy was Sweet Stuff, Plushie Blossom was North Star and so on...
And that just about sums up my "childhood collection".
Being a hoarder, when I couldn't get any MLP's, I started to collect Beanie Babies. But the Beanies simply lead me back to the ponies when, on October 12th 1998 (when I was still only seven years old, so I guess these could still be called my "childhood collection), I went to a toy fair in search of them cheaply, and came home with eight second hand ponies who I had bought from a dealer for 3.00gbp. Although I can't remember who they all were, I know Sea Shell, Snowflake, Honeysuckle and a very authentic-looking fakie were among them!
Every three months, we would return to the toy fair, and buy more ponies from the same lady. I remember my joy when I found my TV idols (LOL!) like "Cherry Jubilee", as we called her at the time, and Lickety Split, who, in my naive pony collecting mind, I bought twice at the badly lit toy fair, thinking that one (with faded ice cream cone symbol) had clouds with rain drops on her rump!
Lickety Split was my first duplicate and, since I had nobody to trade her with at the time, she was allowed into my herd as "Raindrop" (At that time, I didn't know there was a real, rare pony called Raindrop!) and I loved her just as much as the rest.
Gradually, other duplicates crept in from kind friends, and some upgrades too...I loved them all too much to part with my originals though!
And so, that's how the Rescue Home came to be...now I can't resist the lure of a tail sticking out of the box of toys in the charity shop, and just have to buy that old custom bait Peachy! I hope that you will visit us regularly, and get to know and love the Rescue Ponies almost as well as I do at the "Meet The Rescue Ponies" board. There you will eventually find details of all 2000+ Rescue Ponies, learn about "Pony Of The Month" (a special elected pony with an interesting story) and be able to join in with "Restore or not Restore" debates.
Have fun here!
Kind regards,
Desiree, the mad, Rescue Pony Mummy!
