Well, this will be our first "Pony Of The Month". She's been added a little late, but now that we have a digi camera, I'll be able to keep this going!
Powder's Story
On the cold, wet and miserable morning of March 20th 2000, my parents and I battled our way to a small car boot sale about twenty minutes drive away from the house.
Despite the weather conditions, a lot of brave booters had set up their tables and were selling their goods, although they weren't the sort of people who would be selling the My Little Ponies we were looking for.
We walked down aisle upon aisle, but there were no ponies to be seen...Until, that is, we got to the last row of tables.
A man with grey hair sat in the back of his van with his wife. They had no table, but instead all of their goods were out in boxes on the floor, soaked from the rain that was still pelting down.
I struggled to open my eyes and look through the rain at the boxes, and spotted some blue hair sticking out of a box! I ran forward and, sure enough, found a little pony for my, then quite small, collection - Sky Dancer the Summer Winged Pony.
I eagerly dug down the box looking for more ponies, as the man got out of the van where he had been sheltering and informed us that he was selling his daughter's old toys, and we would find several more ponies if we kept searching.
I pulled out quite a few ponies including two that I had been looking for since I'd first started collecting on a larger scale - Powder and Sparkler. I remember looking at them and thinking what lovely condition they were in...talk about seeing the world through rose-tinted glasses! The man sold us the whole bag of ponies for 2.00gbp, and even threw in Night Glider who I found after we had paid!
We got back to the car, and I began to look at the ponies - almost all of them had a bad fault. High Flyer had no wings, Sky Dancer's wings had been half forced out, Sparkler was covered in nail varnish, Night Glider, Bootsie and Tootsie were OK, as were several others, but then I pulled dear little Powder out of the bag...
The poor little creature had no horn - somebody had cut it off with a knife! Her body was dirty and scratched, and she had no symbols at all! How come I had seen her in such lovely condition at the sale? I think she was scared that I wouldn't buy her LOL!
Of course, she has lived a peaceful retirement here at the Rescue Home, and is one of our most well-known and loved residents. Recently, I decided that it was high-time that I did something for her to bring her back to her former glory! She was bathed and had her hair conditioned (She looked far worse than she is in the picture above, believe it or not!), and now she cute, if rather badly made, clay horn...
Her symbols have been re-painted too - again, not very well, but I still think that she's happy to have them back again! They were painted in washable pearlised paint, so can be re-done if I ever have a steadier hand anyway!
And that's just about it for Powder's story. How satisfying it is to see a sad, lonely and unwanted pony once abused by a child so happy in the safety of our Rescue Home!
